How do our Bird Hazers work?
What is Methyl Anthranilate (MA)?
Is the Methyl Anthranilate (MA) haze harmful?
Is the Hazer solution visually unappealing or burdensome?
What is the overall benefit of the solution?

How do our Bird Hazers work?

Our unique (patented) bird hazers break down a fluid called Methyl Anthranilate (MA) into a light, invisible haze.  As birds fly through the haze, they experience a negative yet humane reaction.  They are simply confronted with an avian irritant.   Because the haze created is invisible, they cannot see it to avoid it.  After repeat exposure, they learn to associate the negative reaction to the property itself.  The key is to keep the hazein the air (in an amount sufficient to the affected site) as birds cannot adapt or get used to it.  When in flight, birds breathe 30% faster.  The resulting breathing pattern forces them to inhale more of the chemical as opposed to when they are stationary.  Our delivery system creates a haze that is lighter than air and naturallly rises one mile into the sky, not only deterring birds at all heights but avoiding contact with any person, product, or site below it.

For severe infestations, the haze will be emitted at greater quantities in the first few months in order to train the birds to avoid the “unappealing” site.   Birds are notoriously adaptive animals.   Our solution will teach them to follow their adaptive instincts and avoid your location altogether.    Consequently, reduced quantities of the haze solution will be required to maintain the effectiveness, typically resulting in quarterly refills of the hazers.  Most of the costs associated with this solution are for upfront materials and installation.

What is Methyl Anthranilate (MA)?

All of our hazers utilize Rejex-It Fog Force fluid, which incorporates the documented bird deterrent Methyl Anthranilate (MA). While proven to deter birds in heavy concentrations years ago, a viable longlasting solution had never been introduced... Enter Soneronics Flock Free.

The secret to our success is our unique (patented) bird hazer technology that distinctly converts the fluid into an invisible haze lighter than air. Not only does this allow the haze to avoid any contact with the landscape, people, or products below its dispersal point, it effectively puts the haze directly in the path of flying birds. This process, unequivocally, provides the best available bird remediation results found anywhere. Most importantly, this process allows for a realistic, affordable, and permanently effective solution.

MA is comprised of soy bean oil and the skin of concord grapes. MA is an FDA registered grape concentrate prominently found in sunscreens, lip balms, candy, and other grape flavored products (there is more MA found in a single grape Jolly Rancher than we disperse into the air). While MA has a pleasant grape scent to humans, it acts as an irritant when inhaled by birds. Birds experience a disorienting effect that burns their taste and smell receptors. We take their unparallelled adaptive instincts and use it against them, teaching the birds to avoid the unpleasant and irritating area. Resident birds will leave and new birds will fly in the other direction.

Is the Methyl Anthranilate (MA) haze harmful?

Methyl Anthranilate (MA) has no negative effect on the birds, humans, or the environment.   Comprised of soy bean oil and the skin of concord grapes, it is a United States Food and Drug Administration (“USFDA”) approved grape concentrate commonly used as a flavor additive in food products such as grape Jolly Ranchers and Kool-Aid.  It is also found in sunscreens, lip balms, candy, and other grape flavored products.   MA is on the USFDA’s “Generally Recognized as Safe” (GRAS) list.  The amount of MA emitted by each hazer is a fraction of that contained in common household foods.  (FYI: a grape Jolly Rancher contains 200 parts-per-million of MA whereas the haze emitted by a hazer contains only 5 parts-per-million) Further, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) exempted MA from the requirement of a tolerance, and it is now a common bird deterrent in agricultural development.

Is the Hazer solution visually unappealing or burdensome?

The emitted haze is invisible and lighter than air.  It will never descend onto your property, products, or patrons.   Combined with the strategic hidden placements of the hazers, the presence of our solution will be undetectable.

What is the overall benefit of the solution?

Removing your resident bird population will eliminate your costs and efforts in cleaning up after the birds, remove the need to sort through and replace damaged property, improve the health of those in the area, create a bird free zone where you can relax on this constant nuisance, and, most importantly, allow you to focus on your goals at hand.  In many industries, such as flight safety, it represents a practical method of bird attack prevention.
